Manchester United's £54million Douglas Costa offer rejected by Juventus

Juventus turned down a bid of £54million, according to Calciomercato, with the player apparently telling his agent he does not wish to leave Turin.

United launched a bid for Costa this week, however it has emerged the Italian champions are not willing to let the winger go.

Costa signed for Juventus permanently this season having spent a year in Serie A on loan from Bayern Munich.

Last season the Brazilian scored six goals and bagged 14 assists as he helped Juve win their seventh league title in a row.

This season, however, has seen Costa not score a single goal as injuries and suspensions have left him sidelined.

In September Costa was sent off in a 2–1 home win over Sassuolo, as the 28-year-old attempted to headbutt Federico Di Francesco before spitting on him.

Costa was given a four game ban for his actions and later apologised with the Brazilian playing in all but one league game since his suspension.

Former United manager Jose Mourinho only learnt about the Reds intentions to sign Costa shortly after he was sacked.

Mourinho also discovered that United will press to sign a centre-back in the January transfer window.

United chiefs had been hounded by Mourinho to land as central defender all summer with the 55-year-old left frustrated with their failure to listen to his demand.

Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly are top of United’s wishlist as caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his squad.
