United and Arsenal hold Felix talks

Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal have held talks with the agent of Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who says the player is expected to be on his way out of Atletico.

Felix has struggled to kick on under Diego Simeone.

A loan move could be an option with United keen not to seal permanent transfers in January with the Glazers looking to sell.

    Memphis Depay, 28, Barcelona

United may have missed out on Gakpo but could make a shock return for fellow Holland ace Depay to Old Trafford be on the cards?

Few would have envisaged his dramatic upturn when he left United in 2017 but Depay thrived at Lyon and earned his move to Barcelona.

But the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha this summer have limited his game time.

So with a host of English clubs circling, Ten Hag may want to work with his Dutch compatriot who has unfinished business and a point to prove.

    Dusan Vlahovic, 22, Juventus

United need to sign a genuine No9 with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial more effective playing off the flanks.

And Vlahovic would certainly fit the bill – he is a goalscorer and a good one at that.

His £70m move to Juventus from Fiorentina 12 months ago has not quite worked out as planned so United could pounce by giving the Serbian the chance to prove himself in the Premier League.

    Youssoufa Moukoko, 18, Borussia Dortmund

The Borussia Dortmund star burst on to the scene in 2020 and made his debut a day after his 16th birthday.

He now has kicked on in the absence of Erling Haaland and Sebastien Haller with 11 goals in 44 Bundesliga appearances.

Moukoko is out of contract at Dortmund at the end of the season but is also wanted by Chelsea.

    Joao Felix, 23, Atletico Madrid

Another option could be Ramos' Portugal pal Felix, who is expected to be on his way out of Atletico Madrid.

The flexible forward has struggled to kick on under Diego Simeone and the LaLiga side could decide to cash in early in the New Year.

However, the Red Devils face plenty of competition for Felix who has also been linked with Arsenal and now Chelsea.

    Goncalo Ramos, 21, Benfica

The Portugal striker proved he can be the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo's throne in the national team with his World Cup heroics, in particular that hat-trick against Switzerland.

And he may well be the heir to the throne at club level, too, as United consider another move for the Benfica man.

Ramos has 15 goals and six assists in 22 games for his club this season and those kind of figures could propel United into the top four.

Five players Man Utd could sign in January

Manchester United were dealt a savage blow when Liverpool hijacked their transfer plan for Cody Gakpo.

The Dutch World Cup star looked on course to join the Red Devils from PSV in January.

But their rivals at Anfield swooped to agree a £37million deal for the Holland forward and steal him away from Erik ten Hag's grasp.

So SunSport rounds up five potential transfer targets United could land instead when the market reopens…

Man Utd to look at loan market

Manchester United will ONLY look at the loan market in the January transfer window.

That's according to the Daily Mail, who report that the Old Trafford club will only be able to make loan signings in the winter market due to the current ownership situation at the club.

Last month, the Glazer family announced that they were open to selling the Red Devils.

Lingard slams Man Utd ‘false promises’

Jesse Lingard has slammed Manchester United in a blistering attack, claiming he was sold “false promises” and that his axing may have been “political.”

Lingard – now at Nottingham Forest – told the Telegraph: “I don’t know why I wasn’t playing. I don’t know what the problem was, whether it was politics or whatever.

“I still haven’t got an answer to this day. I didn’t even ask.

“I’d rather that someone out of respect for me being there that long told me ‘this is why you’re not playing’, but I never got that.

“It was false promises. I was training hard and I was sharp, I was ready to play them games."

Why didn't Man Utd sign Gakpo?

A lot of United fans will be looking with envy at Liverpool as they sign one of Europe's most promising young forwards for a bargain £37million.

The Red Devils had agreed personal terms with Gakpo last summer but the transfer failed to materialise.

United aren't in the Champions League this season while Liverpool are. And the Red Devils are already pretty stacked in the left-wing department.

Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho can all play on either wing and three of those four prefer playing on the left.

Big-money signing Antony plays on the right wing, where Gakpo also sometimes plays.

United's focus has to be to try and sign a No9, after missing out on Erling Haaland last summer.

    Good morning Man Utd fans

The Red Devils lead the hunt for World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez – as they prepare to resume Prem action at home to Nottingham Forest tonight.

Boss Erik ten Hag has been cagey about whether Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will be ready following their final showdown in Qatar.

And fellow centre-back Harry Maguire is also doubtful after illness kept him out of last Wednesday's 2-0 Carabao Cup home win over Burnley.

United are rated as favourites ahead of Liverpool to land Martinez's Argentina colleague Fernandez.

But the midfielder, 21, insists he's only focused on Benfica's return to action on Friday.

And Livepool are believed to have agreed a deal for United target Cody Gakpo, despite the Red Devils long being frontrunners for PSV's Holland winger.

Meanwhile, United outcast Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly due for a medical with Saudi Arabians Al-Nassr.

Red Devils' wideman Anthony Elanga is on the radar of Prem rivals such as Everton.

And finally, third-choice left-back Brandon Williams is tipped for a permanent United exit in the summer.

    Liverpool ‘reach Cody agreement’

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo after reaching an agreement to sign him.

Gakpo has been heavily linked with a Premier League move since the summer. He bolstered his reputation with three goals for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

And the Reds have now reached an agreement in negotiations with PSV, the club have confirmed.

In a statement, the club said: “PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the upcoming transfer of Cody Gakpo.

“The 23-year-old attacker will immediately leave for England where he will undergo the necessary formalities to complete the transfer.

“Both clubs are not making any announcements about the transfer fee. ‘But this is a record transfer for PSV,’ said general manager Marcel Brands.

The PSV management completed the transfer on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England. Gakpo will cost an initial £37million and the forward could complete a medical in the next 48 hours.

Jurgen Klopp hinted at January business when recalling the impact Luis Diaz made after signing in the last winter window.

He said: “We have two long-term injuries up front. Last January, Luis Díaz came in which was very helpful for that part of the season. Doing something similar this time? If it was a positive move, why not?”

PSG linked to Utd and Arsenal target Felix

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are still being linked to Joao Felix.

It’s claimed the Blues have been offered Atletico Madrid’s Portugal attacker on loan.

And it’s thought the battle for any permanent deal would be between United and Arsenal – IF he chooses the Prem.

But Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio told Dutch outlet Soccernews that Felix, 23, would prefer to join PSG.

Utd fans fume at Kop nicking Cody

United fans have been left fuming after it emerged that Liverpool had agreed a fee for the transfer of Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo had been tipped to join the Red Devils since a move initially fell through in the summer.

And progress towards a transfer in January was said to be advancing after United lost the services of Cristiano Ronaldo prior to the World Cup.

However, PSV have now confirmed that Liverpool agreed a fee to sign the Dutchman after submitting an official bid to PSV worth £37million.

They said in a statement: "PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the upcoming transfer of Cody Gakpo.

"The 23-year-old attacker will immediately leave for England where he will undergo the necessary formalities to complete the transfer.

"Both clubs are not making any announcements about the transfer fee. 'But this is a record transfer for PSV,' said general manager Marcel Brands.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: "Missing out on Gakpo will be the biggest mistake, this board is a joke. Can't wait for the day when this club is sold."

A second user said: "United is a big joke if they should lose Gakpo," while a third echoed this by saying: "Gakpo lol. Joke of a club."

Elanga is understood to be frustrated with his role at United due to a lack of first-team football.

    Al-Nassr optimistic of Ron deal

Al-Nassr have reportedly scheduled a medical for Cristiano Ronaldo and club chief Marcelo Salazar has confirmed that they are in talks to sign him in a huge deal.

There is plenty to discuss for both the club and the 37-year-old with Salazar saying it’s a “negotiation of enormous magnitude.”

Ronaldo supposedly has a £173million-a-year offer on the table, but SunSport understands he is yet to decide whether to join the club or not.

Al-Nassr seem confident that the transfer is going to happen, even booking a medical for Ronaldo and accommodation for his representatives, according to CBS Sports.

They claim the club are optimistic a deal could be finalised for the opening of the January transfer window.

The formalities have supposedly been sorted and Ronaldo would be handed a big role in terms of running Al-Nassr and in Saudi Arabia’s potential bid to host the World Cup in 2030.

Club chief Salazar told Flashscore: “I’m not allowed to say yes or no. Let’s wait and see how things unfold until the end of the year.

“This is a negotiation of enormous magnitude, not only for the club, but for the country and for world football, and which has to be conducted by higher authorities.”

He is among a number of players that play better without the Portuguese attacker in the side.

The boost could be important for United as they aim to finish in the Champions League places.

    Martial backs Utd squad

Anthony Martial is confident Manchester United's current squad can get them in the Champions League.

Despite links to Cody Gakpo and Joao Felix, Martial has played a regular part under boss Erik ten Hag this season.

And even though Cristiano Ronaldo's departure has increased speculation more firepower will be brought in next month, the fit-again Frenchman backed himself and team-mates.

United resume their Premier League campaign at home to Nottingham Foreat tomorrow night.

And Martial, 27, said: "We’ve put in a lot of good work and it has been a bit like a pre-season for us.

"We’ve worked on fitness training and getting into top shape physically, and I’ve benefited a lot from that personally."

"We’ve a very good team of players, with a great dynamic about us, a lot of victories already under our belt, we now just have to keep on in those winning ways.

"Lots of matches coming up now but, apart from those who went to the World Cup, there has been time for some rest, and they will now also have had a few days off, so we hope we will all return in good shape for the challenges ahead."

    ‘Big fight’ to sign Rice

West Ham manager David Moyes has warned Manchester United and Chelsea that they will not be “rolling over” to let Declan Rice leave the club.

The Hammers captain has been linked with an exit from the London Stadium after becoming one of the top midfielders in the country.

But Moyes is hopeful of keeping him as the Scot said: “He wants to win, and he wants to play for a really good side, which is going to give him that opportunity to do so.

“We hope that we can reach the Champions League — it is looking difficult at this moment in time.

“But we are not just going to roll over and let Dec walk out of the building, that is for sure. It is going to be a big fight.”
