Man City lead transfer race to sign Southampton ace Danny Ings with Man Utd as outsiders, say bookies

MANCHESTER CITY are favourites to sign Danny Ings, according to bookmakers Betfair.

The Citizens are searching for a successor to Argentine centre-forward Sergio Aguero, whose contract expires in June.

The club have identified Ings and Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland as potential replacements.

But Ings is considered the more attainable target with Manchester United, Chelsea and several European heavyweights also striving to capture £100m-rated Haaland.

City are priced at 4/1 to complete a deal with Betfair.

And their chances of signing the former Burnley and Liverpool forward are further boosted by his contract situation.

Ings' current deal is set to expire in June 2022 and Southampton are refusing to break their wage structure to accommodate the 28-year-old.

And manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is right behind the board's stance.

In December, he explained: "I think the offer we made him is a fantastic one.

"And, in my opinion, we showed him how much we want him to stay here and the rest is on him.

"Now he has to take the responsibility for this and we will have to live with it too.

"We are not addicted to one player only and we must always have a squad that can replace anybody."

West Ham and Everton are City's closest challengers, priced at 11/2 and 8/1 respectively.

Both sides are looking to bolster their forward options with potential European qualification on the horizon.

Tottenham are a double-figure 10/1 with Aston Villa a fraction behind at 11/1.

Leeds, Leicester and Manchester United are locked together at 14s while Arsenal are the outsiders of the pack at 16/1 to bring Ings to the Emirates Stadium.
