Kelly Stafford blasts media for blaming Lions loss on quarterback husband

The Lions were blown out by the Colts on Sunday, 41-21, but Matthew Stafford’s wife believes the quarterback shouldn’t shoulder all of the blame.

Taking to Instagram, Kelly Stafford called out the Detroit Free Press, who said Stafford is mostly at fault for Detroit’s fourth loss of the season.

“@Detroitfreepress Proving they have zero idea what they are talking about YET AGAIN. Stick to EVERYTHING besides sports. K thanks, bye,” Stafford posted, per Awesemo.com, sharing a screenshot of the headline, “Detroit Lions’ Matthew Stafford deserves most of the blame for loss to Colts.”

Stafford, now in his 12th season in Detroit, completed 24 of 42 pass attempts for 336 yards in Sunday’s loss, with three touchdowns and one interception. He was also sacked five times.

“If I play like that, it’s going to be tough for us to win,” Stafford said. “I’m sure that there’s a lot of guys in our locker room looking at themselves in the mirror saying, if I play like that it’s going to be tough for us to win. So if you guys want to put it on somebody, put it on me.”

The 3-4 Lions are currently third in the NFC North and will face the division rival Vikings on Sunday.

Stafford’s wife Kelly has long been outspoken when it comes to her husband’s well-being. In August, she called out the NFL for turning their lives into a “nightmare” in response to a false-positive COVID-19 test the quarterback received. He was later removed from the league’s COVID-IR list.

The Staffords have been married since 2015 and share four children together.
