Kate Upton and Amy Cole will always have Houston.
Two months after recreating their spouses’ Sports Illustrated cover, Upton — the wife of Astros ace Justin Verlander — will be bidding adieu to her postseason pal, as Amy’s husband, Gerrit Cole, agreed to a record-breaking nine-year, $324 million deal with the Yankees on Tuesday night.
“Special, special guy. Obviously a great athlete, a great pitcher in the prime of his career,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said prior to the news. “I feel like Gerrit’s understanding of who he is and why he’s great and to be able to speak about it was really impressive.”
Cole initially spurned the Yankees after they drafted him in 2008 to pitch for UCLA. That’s where Cole, 29 and a southern California native, first crossed paths with wife Amy, who was a softball player for the Bruins.
“I remember thinking she was the prettiest girl I had ever met and I wanted to get to know her,” Cole previously told Inside Weddings.
Cole eventually got to know Amy, the sister of San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford, but it took a bit of convincing.
“I was moving into my new apartment and Gerrit drove an hour and a half after a wedding just to help me move. My mom was there with me and he showed up with a bouquet of flowers for her birthday,” Amy also shared to the outlet. “That’s the day I decided to take him up on that first-date offer from the year prior.”
The couple tied the knot in Santa Barbara in November 2016, and celebrated their third wedding anniversary last month.
“One of my most favorite days of the year! Love you @amyc23! Cheers to 3 years!” Cole posted to Instagram at the time.
Amy followed up with a sweet message of her own, writing: “Forever grateful for you.”
