Jockey Charlie Deutsch reveals nasty black eye following horror fall at Bangor

CHARLIE DEUTSCH showed off the nasty eye injury he sustained during a horror fall at Bangor.

The jockey was riding Salopian Boy when he refused to jump the first and clattered into two others.

Deutsch was one of three jockeys who came crashing to earth in the disastrous pile-up at the Welsh track.

Fortunately all horses returned to their feet and ran on and the jockeys were OK too.

But interviewed on ITV ahead of his first race at Cheltenham today, Deutsch revealed his bruises.

His right eye was swollen with bruising and there was a cut on his nose with another scratch down his cheek.

TV host Luke Harvey was out on the Cheltenham track and mentioned Deutsch's cuts as he sat aboard Fanion Destruval, who finished second in the 1.50.

Deutsch shouted back: "I can still see all right!"

He opened up on what happened during an earlier interview, saying: "I got thrown underneath the main field.

"Got a little flick in the eye. Thankfully no damage."

Deutsch, who has won prize money totalling almost £2million during his career, was on board 9-2 shot and debutant Salopian Boy.

The Venetia Williams-trained four-year-old looked to be travelling OK before the first flight of hurdles in the 2m 3f race on Wednesday.

But the horse veered wildly to its left when refusing to jump and clattered into two others.

Jockey A. P. Heskin was sent flying off 33-1 shot Locallink and Henry Brooke came crashing to the turf aboard 18-1 outsider Bird On The Wire.
