While right fielder Nick Markakis and the Atlanta Braves embarked on their first road trip of the season, his home was burglarized, according to a police report obtained by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Police are searching for a suspected burglar who broke into the Markakis' Atlanta home March 29 and stole five firearms, including an AR-15 rifle, a Breitling watch and $20,000 in cash, Markakis told police.
Police were called to the scene when a neighbor suspected someone in Markakis' house. Upon arrival, police discovered a window broken and the front door open.
Markakis, a first-time All-Star last season, and his teammates were visiting the Philadelphia Phillies at the time of the incident.
No other details were given and the investigation is ongoing.
