China vs England preview

England will look to complete qualification to the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup against China on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lionesses are top of Group D having taken a maximum six points after two fairly lowkey 1-0 victories over Haiti and Denmark.

The European champions, ranked fourth in FIFA's rankings, enter the clash as solid 5/11 favourites to secure another win against China, who sit 14th in the world.

Sarina Wiegman's side just need a point to progress, but will want to unlock their goalscoring capabilities and build confidence heading into the next stage.

China earned their first victory at the 2023 Women's World Cup by beating Haiti, despite playing for more than an hour with only 10 players.

Everything is still to play for. China and Denmark both have three points, while Haiti, playing at their first World Cup, have zero points but can still qualify if they beat Denmark and China lose to the Lionesses.

If China and Denmark both win, they along with England will each have six points, with goal difference deciding which two teams advance to the knockout stage.

China vs England betting tips

England to win 1-0 at 4/1 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE

We were successful with our 4/1 selection last week on a 1-0 victory for England, and we're sticking with it for Tuesday's all-important showdown.

England's campaign has been built on a solid defence with back-to-back clean sheets against Haiti and Denmark, and another against Portugal in their previous outing.

Sarina Wiegman's side will be pragmatic, and even more so having lost irreplaceable midfielder Keira Walsh, who was stretchered off with a knee injury.

Walsh's absence could see a major shift in England's starting XI and a more cautious approach. China themselves aren't full of goals having failed to score in four of their last eight clashes.

Lauren James Over 1 Shot On Target at 29/10 with William Hill – CLAIM HERE

Lauren James certainly had an eventful 90 minutes against Denmark. The 21-year-old made the breakthrough with an absolute stunner from range.

The attacker, who was named player of the tournament at February's invitational tournament the Arnold Clark Cup, had three shots at goal and all were on target.

James should keep her place ahead of Lauren Hemp on the left flank, and will enter the contest with huge confidence. She's scored 38 goals in 109 matches at club level, and will no doubt chance her arm with England likely to dominate the ball.
