JAMES GALLAGHER insists he will ‘thrive off hearing Cal Ellenor gurgling and choking’ when the two arch-rivals finally meet in the cage this Saturday.
The bantamweight clash between them has been scheduled and scrapped three times already due to injury, a misdiagnosis and the Covid-19 pandemic.
During that period the pair clashed at a media event as the war of words threatened to boil over early.
Despite all that, the Irish ‘Strabanimal’ insists he has no added incentive to defeat ‘clown’ Ellenor going into Bellator Euro Series 9 clash in Milan.
And even without fans, the polarising 10-1 pal of Conor McGregor says the sound of his opponent gasping for mercy is the only thing he needs to motivate him.
The 23-year-old said: “When I step in there I’ve got no emotion to him at all – I just think he’s a f***ing clown. I just think he can’t put two and two together.
“I’ll feel his cheekbone off my elbow and that’s the only feelings I’ll be having.
“I don’t give a f*** who is in front of me. He does not play a factor in any of this because why would you let someone unreliable play a factor on something.
“I’m not trying to get past anything. I’m here in the moment prepared to go.
“It suits me better having no crowd, I can’t wait to hear my elbow bouncing off his cheekbone. It’s going to be great.”
Gallagher continued: “I’m prepared to fight, I’m a fighter who prepares to fight and thrive off fighting and winning.
“I don’t need a crowd, other people, anything. I’m here and ready to fight.
“I’m not here just to get this out of the way because it’s the fourth time, I am here to fight him.
“I thrive off winning and that’s what I’m here to do. And when I smack in the head and I can hear the noise of my glove smacking off the side of his face, I’ll thrive off that.
“Then when I take his back and hear him crumbling and wincing, and then get him a choke and can hear him gurgling and choking, ready to get out of there, that is what I really thrive off. I’m dark.”
Gallagher travelled to Dubai for two months of training during lockdown before returning to Ireland and into a new home outside of Dublin city centre.
He has used his purposefully-built home gym to prepare for his next chapter inside the cage before heading to Italy.
And he insisted that things could not be better for him as he aims to prove to everyone that he is among the world’s elite fighters.
Gallagher said: “Life can’t be any better for me now as I’ve got everything I need and want.
“I’m in Milan now ready to go, prepared, feeling fit and healthy and that’s all that matters.
“To prove that I am the better man, one of the best fighters on this planet, that is what I’m here to do.”
And he believes that ‘when’ he defeats Ellenor he may only be one more bout, potentially against Sergio Petis, from landing himself a world title shot.
“I'm going to go in there, get the job done and do whatever it takes. I want to be a world champion.”
