The Burnley midfielder was riled up throughout the contest in which the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners.
Barnes did give the Clarets a lifeline when his second half goal restored the deficit by one before Alex Iwobi ended the contest in injury time.
But question marks were raised why he was even on the pitch following an altercation with his opponent.
He had already been booked in the first half after tussling with Arsenal defender Sokratis.
And after conceding a foul against the youngster, footage showed his right foot plant onto the stomach of Guendouzi.
Barnes would argue that he was trying to get the ball from the Frenchman's grasp.
He was only penalised for the incident and the referee let play continue.
One viewer took to Twitter to joke: "Ashley Barnes is trying his hardest to be at home for Boxing Day isn't he?"
Another said: "I'm not sure how Ashley Barnes has not been sent off after stepping on Matteo Guendouzi."
He was also involved in a separate incident following a tussle with defender Sokratis.
The pair collided following a tackle and Barnes appeared to have his arm wrapped around his head.
After the contest, Sokratis was quizzed on his battle with Barnes and said: "Of course I enjoyed. This is football.
"Maybe it was too much but it was not my mistake, I stand up & like to go for the ball, but this is football, it can happen.”
