Arsenal transfer bid for James Rodriguez hots up as Gunners 'show most interest' in Colombian forward

ARSENAL are showing the most interest in wantaway Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to reports.

The 29-year-old, along with Gareth Bale, was left out of Zinedine Zidane's squad for Real's Champions League second leg encounter with Manchester City.

Spanish outlet AS claim the Gunners are the club most likely to make a move for the Colombian.

Arsenal were among a number of teams linked with Rodriguez last summer but a deal never came to fruition.

Super-agent Jorge Mendes is the man tasked with finding Rodriguez a new club.

Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested in the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner.

The ex-Porto, Monaco and Bayern Munich star has just one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu and could be available for as little as £22million.

Real Madrid boss Zidane confirmed last month Rodriguez had asked to be left out of Los Blancos' last five games of the season in a bid to avoid injury before a potential transfer away.

Rodriguez made a total of 14 appearances for Real Madrid this season, scoring once.

Reports elsewhere in the Spanish press claim the Gunners have agreed personal terms with Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian playmaker looks set to leave the Camp Nou after spending this season on loan at Bayern Munich.

Another loan deal for the ex-Liverpool midfielder is in the works with Barcelona unlikely to recoup much of their £140million outlay this summer.

Links to Arsenal come after the north London side reportedly agreed a deal to sign Chelsea attacker Willian on a free transfer.

Like Willian, Coutinho's affairs are looked after by his agent Kia Joorabchian, a self-confessed Arsenal fan.
