  • TOTTENHAM wanted to sign Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo before they completed a deal for Giovani Lo Celso.

    The Italian midfielder's agent, Claudio Vigorelli, told the Mail: “He renewed with Roma and is fine at Roma but obviously we enjoyed great interest of Tottenham, who were the runners up in the Champions League.

    “Their concrete interest in him shows how good they boy's season was.

    “Spurs thought a lot about taking Lo Celso, they focused their attention on him seriously, more than any other club even beyond the Premier League.”

    The right-back has been out for the last three weeks with a hamstring strain but could return for the Eagles clash, according to Football.London.
