Awkward: The humiliated bride waited three hours before finally accepting that she wouldn’t be marrying her long-term love
For real? Sasha claimed that it was Kevin who wanted to splurge on a big fairy-tale wedding
‘Everybody tells me that I had a lucky escape but I feel like he cheated me out of all the years we were in a relationship,’ she added.
‘He has begged me to go into therapy with him and give our relationship another go. But we were in pre-marital therapy for six months before the wedding. How much therapy do you need?’ she asked.
Although Kevin was reluctant to explain why he never showed up for their wedding, he insisted that he had his reasons.
List: They were supposed to say ‘I do’ in front of 125 guests
‘I didn’t show up because something had happened right then and there,’ he said. ‘It wasn’t intentional, it wasn’t planned, it just happened that way. It’s something personal and I don’t want to get into it.’
Sasha and Kevin, who formerly worked as a manager at an ophthalmologist’s office, met at church as children and began dating when she turned 18.
‘It was perfect from the beginning. We became best friends and we didn’t argue. Everyone looked up to us and everyone wanted to be like us,’ she recalled.
In December 2017, Kevin popped the question and the couple began planning a lavish $20,000 wedding for October 8.
‘I didn’t even want a big wedding. I wanted to travel and I suggested using the money to see the world together,’ she said. ‘But Kevin wanted a big wedding. We chose the venue after seeing five places. It was going to be amazing.’
Sasha claimed that she was the one splashing out the cash for the wedding of their dreams while Kevin promised to pay her back.
‘I spent about $20,000, but he only spent a grand on the venue deposit and my hairdresser and nail technician,’ she noted.
Say what? Sasha said that despite Kevin telling her he would pay her back, she ended up spending $20,000 on the wedding compared to him who paid roughly $1,000
Awful: One of Sasha’s bridesmaids was involved in a car accident and left the hospital wearing a neck brace after she went looking for Kevin that day
‘He didn’t spend a dime compared to what I spent, but he kept telling me that he was going to pay me back.’
The couple posed for engagement photos in front of the Manhattan Bridge in July and fine-tuned every detail ahead of their special day.
On the morning of her wedding day, Sasha woke up in her Long Island hotel room with her six bridesmaids and maid of honor.
As the girls got glammed up, Sasha called her soon-to-be husband and they chatted about their upcoming nuptials.
‘He told me he loved me and that he couldn’t wait to marry me,’ she said.
However, when Sasha was having her makeup done at 11:30am, she received a call from her florist telling her the venue had forbid her from entering the building.
The horror: The nightmare continued when staff at the venue delivered Sasha the bombshell news that Kevin hadn’t even paid off the balance, despite telling her he had
Shocking: Kevin never told Sasha that their wedding was canceled because he failed to pay for the venue
‘My florist called me and told me that the venue had not allowed her in to set up the flowers,’ she said. ‘I called Kevin and he told me he was running late.
‘I didn’t worry because the ceremony wasn’t until 5pm with a drinks reception before,’ she admitted.
‘But then at 1:30pm, one of my bridesmaids told me that her brother had called the venue asking for the address and he had been told that there was no wedding scheduled for today.
‘Alarm bells went off in my head.’
Kevin couldn’t be located and claimed his Uber had been delayed on the Southern State Parkway.
‘I waited for three hours and he didn’t show up,’ Sasha said.
Hoping to save the day, Sasha’s bridesmaid Katisha Dorziere, 20, rushed out to find the missing groom.
Look of love? Kevin had popped the question in December 2017 and they happily posed for save the date photos
Never happened: The two were supposed to get married on October 8
But instead of tracking down Kevin, Katisha ended up in a car crash which landed her in the emergency room with a neck brace.
‘I felt like my wedding day was cursed,’ Sasha admitted.
By 1:30pm, guests began to descend on the venue but Kevin was nowhere to be seen, and it began to dawn on Sasha that she would not be getting married.
‘I realized at 2:30pm and at that point I didn’t have any emotions. I was numb,’ she said. ‘I was too in shock to have any emotions but I was beginning to feel anger.’
But there was more bad news in store. The venue – Jericho Terrace in Long Island, New York – told Sasha that Kevin had not paid for the space, as he told her he had.
‘All the groomsmen and all my bridesmaids showed up but the venue started turning guests away. I asked why and they told me that Kevin had never paid any money,’ she said.
‘That’s when I realized everything was just a big fat joke to him.’
Aftermath: Sasha was devastated after Kevin failed to show up for their wedding and immediately ended their relationship of ten years
Depressing: Instead of jetting off on her honeymoon to Greece, which Sasha had shelled out $3,853 for, she stayed at home
The venue’s manager sent Sasha a letter after the disastrous would-be wedding, outlining their interactions with Kevin.
They wrote that Kevin had given the venue a $3,000 check in June, which they couldn’t accept as they had been unable to locate the account.
The venue canceled the wedding in July, but Kevin asked if he could put it back on.
Jericho Terrace agreed as long as the event was paid for in full two days before the wedding.
‘He did not comply,’ the manager wrote.
On the day of the wedding, oblivious guests filed into Jericho Terrace as frantic staff called Kevin. He promised he would be there soon but never turned up.
‘At that time, I notified the bride and let her know what was going on and she was totally unaware,’ the manager explained.
Gutsy move: Sasha claims Kevin reached out to her just three days after their failed wedding and begged her to take him back
Not having it: Sasha believes she will one day be able to forgive her runaway groom, but she said she can’t right now
Sasha was devastated and immediately ended their relationship of ten years.
‘I told him it was over. I said: “You made your decision and I made mine.” To the last minute, he said he was coming, he told me he was on his way. He kept lying the whole time,’ she said.
Instead of jetting off on her honeymoon to Greece, which Sasha had shelled out $3,853 for, she stayed at home.
After paying out of pocket for the honeymoon trip, $6,800 on flowers, $2,400 on the entertainment, $3,499 on the photographer, $2,700 on her dress and shoes, and $500 on tableware, her failed fairy-tale wedding left her down nearly $20,000.
So far, she has only managed to recoup a paltry $100 by selling the party favors she bought for her wedding online.
Astonishingly, Kevin seemed to believe that the couple still had a future together even after he jilted Sasha.
War of the words: Kevin didn’t deny that he tried to rekindle his romance with Sasha, but he said he’s ‘not begging’ her to take him back
Dunzo: Sasha insisted that she would never take Kevin back because he ‘betrayed’ her in the ‘worst possible way’
Just three days after the disaster, he emailed Sasha telling her that they could ‘get over’ the wedding mishap.
‘I know it will take some time to get over, I know we can,’ he wrote. ‘People would say we are crazy, but who cares! We are just crazy about each other. I love you.’
He apologized for jilting Sasha at the altar by text a week later.
While Sasha believes she will one day be able to forgive her runaway groom, she cannot right now.
‘I could eventually forgive him but right now I’m still not OK. By the end of next year, I might be able to forgive him,’ she wrote.
Kevin didn’t deny that he tried to rekindle his romance with Sasha, but he said he’s ‘not begging’ her to take him back.
‘We have been texting back and forth ever since the incident happened,’ he said. ‘I’m not going to say “I don’t love you” after ten years.
His words: ‘I’m not groveling at her feet. I’m not begging her for anything,’ Kevin said
Back in the game: Sasha is now trying to adjust to her life as a single woman
‘It’s up to her, whatever she wants to do. We can repair it. If not, then that’s how it is. I’ve never texted her or emailed her first,’ he said. ‘She’s always texted and emailed me.
‘It’s between her and I. It’s not one-sided. In order for me to save it, she’d have to save it as well. I’m not groveling at her feet. I’m not begging her for anything.’
Sasha is now trying to adjust to her life as a single woman.
‘I’m not used to dating,’ she admitted. ‘It’s a whole new ball game for me now. I want kids and I want to start a family and I thought I was in that position.
‘But now I have to start from square one. It’s a difficult situation to be in.’
Sasha insisted that she would never take Kevin back.
‘He said he panicked and that he had a nervous breakdown. He betrayed me in the worst way possible in front of my friends and family,’ she said. ‘Some things can’t be fixed.
‘We are absolutely not getting back together.’
