The “Saints” aren’t marching in just yet.
After being postponed over COVID-19 concerns, the much-anticipated “The Many Saints of Newark” is finally set to open on September 24, 2021 — almost a year after its original planned release date.
“The Sopranos” prequel, which is being produced by New Line Cinemas and released by Warner Bros., was originally slated to hit theaters and streaming services in September 2020, Variety reported.
The David Chase-created mafia flick was later rescheduled for this spring due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Billed as the origin story of HBO’s iconic mob drama — which ran from 1999 to 2007 — “The Many Saints of Newark” follows the DiMeo crime family as they vie with rival factions over the riot-ravaged streets of 1960s Newark, New Jersey.
Young Tony Soprano will be portrayed fittingly by Michael Gandolfini, the look-alike son of the late James Gandolfini, who played the adult Soprano in the iconic HBO series. The actor, 21, revealed last year that he never even watched his dad’s legendary show until he was cast in the prequel.
The star-studded cast also includes Leslie Odom Jr. of “Hamilton” fame, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Alessandro Nivola, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro, Michela De Rossi, Ray Liotta and Vera Farmiga.
“The Many Saints of Newark” will simultaneously hit theaters and the HBO Max streaming service.
