The best working from home hack is giving your cat a mini laptop

Is your *cough* strict work from home schedule being constantly interrupted by your cat?

Are their paws forever finding their way onto your keyboard? Or maybe they’re interrupting your morning sun salutation?

If that’s you, TikTok seems to be offering a solution.

Pets and the increased time we’ve been getting to spend with them has definitely been one of the more positive aspects of life in lockdown. But what do you do when the distraction becomes too much?

According to TikTok, making a mini version of whatever activity you’re doing for your cat will encourage them to leave you in peace.

‘So I read on the internet,’ the TikTok audio says, ‘that cats get on your laptop because they’re mirroring you and so if you get them their own laptop they’ll leave you alone.’

But is that true? Sadly Karen Wild, a cat behaviourist, says probably not.

‘It’s likely the cat enjoys the warmth of the laptop,’ she tells Metro.co.uk. ‘Cats also seek out surfaces to lie on (cushions, piles of clothes you’ve just washed, etc) so scientifically there isn’t evidence to suggest that this specific laptop behaviour is mirroring.’

‘However because we do form close social bonds with our cats, some are thought to be affected by the way we interact and manage them. But we aren’t sure yet whether or not we cause them to [mirror us] or behave in certain ways.’

While it might not be scientifically beneficial, making your cat a mini laptop should definitely be on your to-do list anyway.

You know, because it’s cute.
