Tesco as well as other supermarkets have had to all adapt to the new way of food shopping this year. With Christmas just around the corner, supermarkets have started to issue their delivery slots to help customers get the groceries they need for the big day. However, Tesco has issued some important advice when it comes to using their online food service.
Supermarkets have all seen a surge in online demand this year, after customers turn to getting their groceries delivered rather than shopping in-store.
With Christmas usually a busy time for supermarkets anyway, Tesco is facing the impacts of people turning their shopping habits online.
The supermarket giant issued its delivery slots on Friday where shoppers could pick from a range of festive food to order.
However, a statement on the website reads: “We’re experiencing high demand for slots around Christmas.
“We’re sorry if you’re not able to book your preferred slot. Take a look at the following tips to help you manage your Christmas shopping with Tesco.”
If customers cannot pick the slot they need for their festive shop, the supermarket giant is offering other ways to help prepare shoppers for the big day.
Tesco has their Click+Collect service which enables customers to book a dedicated slot online where they can pick up their shopping in a local store.
The website states: “These usually have more availability and Click+Collect slots are just £1.50.

“If you can’t find a slot for one week, try looking at availability for another week.”
Same day Click+Collect is unavailable between December 17 and January 3 so customers need to book their dedicated pick-up slot in advance.
The supermarket also usually has Delivery Saver options which enable customers to pick cheaper slots with delivery within a shorter time period.
However, due to the high demand for groceries, this service is currently paused.
A statement on the Tesco website reads: “Sorry, we’re pausing new sign-ups to Delivery Saver.
“This is to help support our existing and vulnerable customers because of the high demand for online slots.
“We’ll open sign-ups again when we can.”
The supermarket giant is also urging people to still shop in-store if able to and encourages shoppers to start thinking about the day early so that they can get every grocery item they need for the big day.
Tesco also encourages customers to top up their Christmas shop at a local Tesco Express store if they can.
This is to help manage the flow of shoppers in the bigger stores.
For those still shopping in-store, there are some important rules to follow.
In the lead up to Christmas, customers may find queues outside some of the stores due to a traffic light system recently being implemented.
This is to help manage the customers in-store but this could mean there are queues outside.
One person per household is only allowed into a Tesco store to help with socially distancing from other customers and vulnerable shoppers as well as NHS staff still have priority access that they should make use of.
For vulnerable and elderly customers this is every Wednesday and Sunday between 9am-10am.
This will take place in all Extras, Superstores and Metros and won’t be available in Express stores.
For NHS staff, emergency service and care workers, priority access to Tesco stores is available any day of the week, any time, if there is a queue.
If there is a queue, those with a valid ID will be allowed to skip the queue.
