We’re constantly looking for ways to get a better night’s sleep.
From less screen time, to better diets and less caffeine, we’ve tried it all.
But turns out one of the best, and most enjoyable, ways to get better quality shut eye is to have sex.
According to a new study, bonking before bed improved overall sleep quality.
Central Queensland University researchers surveyed 800 men and women about their sex lives.
They found that for 59% of women and 68% of men, a quickie before lights out helped them sleep sounder.
But sadly, any old sex won’t do.
Climaxing was important for a peaceful night’s slumber in 68% of women and 74% of men.
The difference between the sexes wasn’t lost on lead researcher Michele Lastella.
She said: “Significant gender differences existed in perception of sex with a partner and impact on subsequent sleep quality and sleep latency.
“Specifically, a higher proportion of males reported perceived improvement in sleep quality and sleep following sex with a partner.”
Although it wasn’t further explored in this particular study, Lastella believes ’the orgasm gap’ may have something to do with it.
This refers to the sad fact that straight women are climaxing the least out of everyone.
91% of men reach the big-O while having heterosexual sex compared to just 64% of women, according to the National Survey of Sex and Behaviour.
This is probably why they see the least benefit from nighttime romps – as they’re likely to be getting jiggy without orgasming.
