“A Star Is Born” dominated the Screen Actors Guild Awards with four nominations Wednesday, but the limited number of categories in the competition led to a host of nomination snubs.
Here’s who won’t be vying for “The Actor” trophies when the 25th annual SAG Awards air live Jan. 27 (8 p.m. ET/5 PT) on TNT and TBS.
Nicole Kidman: Fresh off a Golden Globe nomination for the gritty noir drama “Destroyer,” Nicole Kidman was denied twice at the SAG Awards – both for “Destroyer” and for her supporting role in “Boy Erased.” (The gay conversion-therapy drama starring Lucas Hedges and Russell Crowe was completely shut out.)
Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan. The duo led the historic film phenom, which wowed the box office and critics with its African-American superhero cast, as T’Challa and the villainous Erik Killmonger. While “Black Panther” landed a SAG acting ensemble nomination and a stunt ensemble nomination, neither of the duo were nominated.
“Roma.” Director Alfonso Cuarón’s awards-contending drama that follows a live-in housekeeper (first-time actress Yalitza Aparicio) hit a big hurdle after its cast, including veteran actress Marina de Tavira, was denied any nominations, notably best ensemble. The awards category has historically been a strong bellwether for Oscar best picture nominations.
Michelle Yeoh. The critically acclaimed summer hit with a history-making all-Asian cast nabbed an ensemble cast nomination. But Yeoh, who brought gravitas and awards speculation to the acting ensemble as the formidable Eleanor Young, did not receive a best supporting actress nomination. “Fresh Off the Boat” star Constance Wu was also overlooked for best actress.
