Netflix U.K. Fires Unnamed Producer Over Historic Sexual Harassment Charges

Netflix U.K. has fired a male producer working on one of its U.K. originals following the receipt of an anonymous email containing allegations of sexual harassment.

“On Monday, we received an anonymous email containing historical allegations about a producer on one of our titles,” said Netflix in a statement shared with Variety. “Whilst the allegations are unrelated to his time on the show, we immediately removed him from the production and referred the matter to the police.”

The producer, who is unnamed, has denied the allegations, which are not connected to any current or historic Netflix shows.

The news was first reported by industry publication Broadcast, who said the email contained “very serious” allegations from at least six individuals. The publication also reported that the producer’s BAFTA membership has been suspended and he has been suspended by his agents.

“He has never acted inappropriately on any production, or at all, and has never had any complaints made about his conduct,” a lawyer acting on behalf of the producer told Broadcast.

Netflix is investing heavily in U.K. content, and has a number of productions in the works locally. Recent titles include “The Irregulars” in Liverpool, “The English Game” in Manchester, “Zero Chill” in Sheffield, “Sex Education” in Wales, “The Last Bus” and “Bridgerton” in the South West and “Top Boy” and “Afterlife” in London. However, it is as yet unknown whether the producer in question was involved in any of these programs.
