DEAR DEIDRE: MY greedy siblings have been granted Power of Attorney over my mother’s health and finances but they just want her money.
The gloves are off. I’m ready to fight to look after her. I’m the middle child of three.
My sister is younger and lives near my mother. My brother lives in Spain.
The Power of Attorney papers were drawn up without my knowledge and I believe that they coerced Mum into signing them.
My sister called me recently to tell me that Mum had fallen.
She called an ambulance when I told her to, but then my brother-in-law rang me to say the ambulance had been cancelled as she didn’t need it.
The crew were nearby so came anyway and found she’d had a stroke. Mum is 87.

I’m a single man of 52 and I want to help her but she’s ill and doesn’t seem to acknowledge me.
I feel so shut out.
DEIDRE SAYS: I’m so sorry. Money issues and inheritance can often tear families apart.
If you feel that there has genuinely been a misuse of her Power of Attorney you can have this investigated through the Office of the Public Guardian.
