My girlfriend is controlling and won't even hug me anymore – is it over?

DEAR DEIDRE:  WHEN we first moved in together my partner was all over me. Now I find it hard to get her even to give me a hug.

I am 27, female, and she is 26. She has a girl of three and I have a boy of five.

I moved in with her after three months and we developed a really passionate relationship and were very happy for a while.

But she has turned out to be jealous and controlling, and anxious I will cheat.

I can’t reassure her enough, it seems.

The kids get on great but I fear I am wasting my time trying to get us back on track.

DEIDRE SAYS: When the children are in bed, have a serious talk about why she is so insecure.

She’s probably been hurt in past relationships and maybe even had reason to feel insecure as a child.

My e-leaflet Coping With Jealousy suggests positive changes – like her asking for a hug when she needs reassurance instead of being cold and controlling.
