Meghan Markle’s dad has revealed his daughter was "always demanding" and liked to "bend the rules".
Thomas Markle also described her as a "control freak" but admitted "this acting up is new".
His bold remarks follow a string of claims made about the Duchess of Sussex which include an alleged rift between Meghan and Kate Middleton and rumours she is difficult to work with following resignations from her staff.
Her heartbroken father said he is baffled by the spate of recent negative stories about his daughter’s behaviour which include her allegedly reducing a member of staff to tears with her 5am demands and a request to spray air freshener around the ‘musty’ St George’s Chapel – a request rejected by the Queen.
Mr Markle said he is worried she is going to hurt herself.
Speaking from a hotel room near his home in Rosarito, a beach town just across from the US-Mexico border, he told the Mail on Sunday: "The Meghan I know was always sweet, kind, generous.
"She was always demanding but never rude.
"I no longer recognise this person."
The 74-year-old who claims to have been ‘frozen out’ of his daughter’s life when she met Prince Harry said he taught her to have respect when she grew up on set with him.
Mr Markle, a retired Emmy award-winning Hollywood lighting director, said he is dreading the idea of Christmas alone while Meghan, who is carrying her first child, and Harry spend the festive holiday with the Queen at Sandringham.
He said: "Meghan grew up on set. I taught her to have respect for the crew. They can make you look good or awful. I don’t pretend to know what she’s like now.
"She bends the rules. She’s good at that. But this acting up is new.
"She’s never been rude to me before. I can’t believe I’ve done anything severe enough to be treated this way by her."
But Mr Markle is still hopeful for a reunion with his daughter at some point, describing his bond with Meghan as ‘unbreakable’.
