A male domestic abuse victim says he was just 10 days away from death after his partner subjected him to horrific beatings.
Alex Skeel, 22, was physically attacked and had boiling water poured over him.
He was denied food, kept isolated from friends and family and even told what to wear by his ex, the Daily Record reports.
His former partner Jordan Worth, 22, admitted grievous bodily harm and coercive controlling behaviour and was jailed for seven-and-a-half years at Luton Crown Court earlier this year.
Now Alex has bravely spoken out about his ordeal, claiming medics told him he was days away from death when help reached him.
Worth and Alex met at college in 2012 when they were both 16 and the court was told from the abuse started early in the relationship.
During the last nine months of the relationship she beat him and he required hospital treatment at times.
The abuse came to an end in June last year when a neighbour heard them fighting and called police.
Ambulance staff wrote that injuries to his hand and burns to his arms and legs had been self-treated with cling film resulting in second and third-degree burns.
Alex said he had not been allowed to get treatment for his wounds and has since had several operations on his brain, head and hands.
He spoke out to encourage other men to come forward and not suffer in silence.
He said: "The hospital told me I was 10 days away from death.
"You’re far more of a person if you speak out.
"You’re only going to get better if you talk about it."
