Line of Duty fans were shocked tonight when a huge twist came at the end of the first episode and it was revealed that ‘balaclava’ man wasn’t who they thought he was. 

The first episode of the new series started tonight when a police van and car were ambushed by armed robbers with balaclavas down a country lane, and multiple police officers are killed. 

As we join the team at AC-12 we found out that the gang stole a lorry full of heroin, which had a street value of £10 million. 


Line of Duty started on BBC 1 for the fifth series and fans are shocked at the big twist at the end


After a series of leads its revealed that the undercover officer is in fact Detective sergeant John Corbett.

Earlier on in the episode the team, including PC Arnett, Hastings and Fleming, track down a possible suspect linked to the ambush.

The man, inside of the police force, had been blackmailed into giving them information about the route the van would take before it was ambushed.

But after further investigation they realise that a colleague in their own office had links to the investigation too.

PC Maneet Bindra is the cousin of the suspect and after questioning her she breaks down in tears admitting her involvement, but thought she was just helping out her cousin.

Hastings immediately suspends her but she tries to help her cousin out, becoming involved with the gang – until they find a burner phone she has is being tracked by police.

Meanwhile as the team try to find out more about the undercover case they are told that the ‘pear tree’ operation has infiltrated a police officer into an organised crime group.

Assuming it’s Lisa McQueen who is the undercover officer, the detective then reveals that ‘he’ hasn’t been in contact with them for months.

Leaving the team shocked the when its revealed that ‘balaclava’ man is in fact the undercover detective. But is he simply just doing his job, or is he a bent copper?
