Kate Middleton’s new role explained – how the Princess’ day to day life will change

Following the death ofQueen Elizabeth II last month, not only were members of the royal family left navigating their own personal loss, but they were left dealing with a whole new series of changes.

FromKing Charles III becoming monarch toCamilla becoming Queen Consort, many members of the family were given brand new titles immediately upon the late Her Majesty's passing.

And during his first speech as monarch on 9 September,King Charles, 73, announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s roles would be changing as he revealed that the pair would become the new Prince and Princess of Wales.

Speaking of his eldest son, he revealed that they’d become the Prince and Princess of Wales, saying that: “Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.

“WithCatherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.”

But what do the couple’s titles mean and what will 40 year old Kate’s new role entail? Let’s take a peek…

Prior to Kate becoming the Princess of Wales, the title was last used by William’s mother Princess Diana following her marriage to Charles back in 1981. However, following her tragic death in 1997, the title fell out of use.

Despite traditionally being passed down to the heir apparent and their partner, Queen Consort Camilla broke protocol by choosing to be known as the Duchess of Cornwall out of respect for Diana.

But now that Kate has taken on the title, the Princess of Wales is expected to partake in an increasing amount of royal engagements, especially those that involve reconnecting with the people of Wales.

Speaking of the move, a source said that Kate “appreciates the history associated with this role but will understandably want to look to the future as she creates her own path.”

A royal source added: “The couple are focussed on deepening the trust and respect of the people of Wales over time.

“The Prince and Princess of Wales will approach their roles in the modest and humble way they’ve approached their work previously.”

While Kate may have only had the new title for a matter of weeks, it’s clear that the mum-of-three has wasted no time in getting stuck into her growing responsibilities.

Alongside her husband, the Princess of Wales visited Anglesey and Swansea in the pair’s first outing since the royal mourning period ended.

For the occasion,Kate paid tribute to her mother-in-law Princess Diana as she wore a stunning red jacket similar to one previously worn by Diana.

Meanwhile, William wore a blue two-piece suit – a lighter shade to that the royal has been seen in of late.
