Shops selling non-essential goods and services around England closed on Thursday, November 5. These retailers must keep their businesses shut down until December 2. But is Robert Dyas allowed to remain open during the second national lockdown?

From Thursday, November 5, England went into lockdown for the second time this year.

The lockdown was implemented in a bid to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

The new lockdown rules will remain in force for four weeks and will impact socialising, travel and many businesses.

Any retailer selling essential goods and services is permitted to remain open as long as they are covid-secure.

Which retailers can remain open?

Businesses permitted to remain open according to Government guidance includes:

  • Food shops, supermarkets, garden centres, hardware stores, building merchants and off-licences;
  • Petrol Stations, car repair and MOT services, bicycle shops, and taxi and vehicle hire businesses;
  • Banks, building societies, post offices, loan providers and money transfer businesses;
  • Medical services such as dentists, opticians and pharmacies;
  • Vets and pet shops;
  • Agricultural supplies shops.
  • Other high street businesses able to stay open include storage facilities, funeral directors, launderettes, dry cleaners and car parks.
  • Motorway service stations and public toilets can also remain open to the public.

Which retailers must shut?

All non-essential retail outlets are now required to close, but they are still permitted to offer click-and-collect services.

Shops required to close include:

  • Clothing shops
  • Homeware and furniture stores
  • Electronic goods and mobile phone shops
  • Vehicle showrooms (other than for rental)
  • Betting shops
  • Tailors
  • Tobacco and vape shops
  • Market stalls selling non-essential goods.

Is Robert Dyas open during the second lockdown?

Robert Dyas is a UK hardware retailer which sells a range of housewares, small electoral appliances, DIY and more items.

The shops will remain open during lockdown, Robert Dyas has confirmed.

On Twitter, the retailer wrote: “We’re pleased to say our stores will remain open during lockdown so that we can continue to provide the essential products we all need for life at home, both in-store and online. “

When and where are Robert Dyas stores open?

All Robert Dyas outlets across the UK will remain open.

There is only one exception, the Sutton store which has closed due to the closure of the shopping centre where the outlet is located.

Robert Dyas has implemented several other measures to keep shoppers, customers and visitors safe.

These measures include:

  • Restrictions on the number of customers allowed in store
  • Customer service hosts on-hand to support with any queries
  • Directional floor signage to ensure social distancing
  • Use of contactless payments where possible
  • Increased frequency of cleaning and sanitising
  • Perspex screens at till points
  • Quarantining returned goods for up to 72 hours
  • Sanitising stations available for baskets
  • PPE available for staff including masks, gloves and personal sanitiser.
