DEAR DEIDRE: I FEEL so embarrassed after being rejected on social media by the barmaid at my local.
I’m worried that I’ve overstepped the mark and now I can’t bear the idea of facing her in the pub.
I’m a 32-year-old male, and she’s 29. We’ve been familiar with each other for a few months, and often have conversations at the bar.
While I was scrolling through my Instagram she came up on my suggested list, and I pressed follow.
I thought we knew each other well enough to connect. But she rejected my request.
Now I feel stupid, and I’m wondering whether or not I can ever show my face in the pub again.

It may not be anything personal. Many people are very private with their social media and only allow close friends and family on their profiles.
It’s possible she may not have realised it was you. Try to carry on as normal.
You won’t know if there is any awkwardness until you see her.
If you feel there is, and if it feels right to then address the issue, then do so and move on. You haven’t done anything wrong.
