Husband's gambling is driving us apart and we no longer share a bed

DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE my husband started gambling we have become total strangers.

We no longer sleep in the same bed.

I am 34, he is 36, we have been married for ten years and have two girls together. One has special needs and can be challenging.

My husband started gambling three years ago. He got into a financial mess and we had bailiffs at our house. I was ready to leave him.

He talked me out of it but we have not slept together since. We don’t even kiss. I feel like he’s a lodger.

I love him but he’s pushed me away over the years.

He sleeps on the couch now. I’m so sad about how things have turned out.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m not surprised. This is no way to live. But the will to change must come from him.

Tell your husband you love him but his gambling is wrecking the family.

Either he stops or he will lose you.

Start by finding support through GamCare (0808 8020 133, gamcare.org.uk).

My e-leaflet Gambler In The Family will be of some help to you as well.
