Diane Kruger honors Karl Lagerfeld at 2019 César Awards

Diane Kruger is still mourning the passing of her close friend Karl Lagerfeld.

The actress, 42, attended the 2019 César Awards in Paris on Friday in a head-to-toe look from Chanel, the fashion house where Lagerfeld served as creative director from 1983 until his death last Tuesday at the age of 85.

The “Inglourious Basterds” star chose a look from the brand’s 2019 Métiers d’Art collection for the occasion, a gold feathered mini dress with a sheer, full-length, long-sleeved underlay complemented by a black and gold belt, a black and gold striped box clutch and black platform sandals.

During the ceremony, the new mom made a speech in honor of the designer, saying, “A few days ago, a light went out. He was my friend. A friend of cinema and a friend to actresses. I miss him already, I miss him terribly. I am just happy to have said a last goodbye.”

Continued Kruger: “It’s impossible to imagine climbing the steps in Cannes or an Oscar ceremony without one of his mythical creations. His sense of humor and worldview, often hilarious, will be missed.”

Kruger was officially named a face of Chanel in 2013, but worked closely with the designer for many years and appeared in several of the brand’s campaigns.

Shortly after Lagerfeld’s passing, Kruger also shared an Instagram post about him, writing, “Karl…..I cannot tell you how much you meant to me and how much I will miss you. I will never forget your kindness towards me, your laughs, your imagination. I came to France to see you this week and introduce you to my daughter…I’m heartbroken I was too late. Rest In Peace, I adore you.”
