Father-of-four feels sexier at SIXTY than he did in his 20s after discovering a love of bodybuilding – and claims he now attracts dates half his age

A dad-of-four is convinced he’s sexier at sixty than he was in his 20s after finding a passion for bodybuilding in later life.
Clayton Paterson, 60, from Ohio had always been fit and active throughout his teens. But over the years, his career and duties as a father to four children, Jacob, 33, Nathaniel, 32, Anne, 30, and Luke, 23, made it difficult for him to maintain his fitness routine.
But since coming out as gay in December 2015, the muscular 60-year-old, who maintains the body of a 20-year-old and weighs 177lbs (12st 9lbs), claims he now attracts men of a wide age range.
‘I was in shape in my twenties but not like I am now, and virtually everyone is in shape in their twenties – it’s not that hard,’ explained former lawyer. ‘I think it is much more striking to be this fit at sixty.’
Clayton admitted that his children’s friends are impressed with his fitness and that he doesn’t feel any different with them – despite their ages. He said: ‘Yes, I don’t party like they do, and I go to bed early, but when I ski with them or have dinner, it all seems very equal’

In December 2015, Clayton came out as gay and has since attracted men who are in their twenties, right up to those in their fifties – and it’s all thanks to his bulked-up body
It wasn’t until 2017, when Clayton discovered physique competitions, that he discovered his passion for bodybuilding. In 2018 he competed in the NPC Masters Nationals where he came fifth and the NPC North American Championships, where he placed third

‘I was always active and fit, but I was naturally very skinny,’ he explained. ‘My older brother would tease me, as he was naturally well muscled. I think that that stuck in my head and made me, not self-conscious about being skinny, but more aware that I could achieve a more robust body.’

But it wasn’t until 2017, when Clayton discovered physique competitions, that he discovered his love for bodybuilding.
Thanks to his newly bulked-up body, he has maintained his physique and can comfortably socialise with his active children and their friends.
‘I know that my children’s friends are impressed with my fitness and I’d like to think that I relate well to them,’ said Clayton. ‘Honestly, I don’t feel a difference with them.’
He added: ‘Yes, I don’t party like they do, and I go to bed early, but when I ski with them or have dinner, it all seems very equal. They treat me as one of them.’

Clayton has maintained his quality of life, health, fitness and sex life. Speaking of his achievements he explained: ‘I feel attractive, confident and the response from others has been very positive. I like to think that I’m a very sex-positive person’
He added: ‘Now, I recognise that I can’t live my life through my children, but I appreciate my relationship with them and their friends. I think being fit, youthful thinking, and active allows you to really fit in with any age group.’
And many people are surprised that a sixty-year-old can be as physically fit as Clayton – so much so, that the bodybuilder is often asked if he is on steroids.
‘I don’t want to be conceited, but I know that I have been able to maintain a body of a twenty-year-old, well from the neck down,’ he explained.
‘I often get asked if I’m on steroids or what supplements do, I take; I do none of those and my natural testosterone level is actually above the normal range. I attribute that to the fact that I have maintained my muscle tone.’
And while Clayton may have retired from his job as a lawyer, he has no plans to slow down any time soon.
‘I’ve maintained my quality of life, health, fitness and sex life,’ he explained. ‘I see no reason to slow down, I don’t want to. I feel attractive, confident and the response from others has been very positive. I like to think that I’m a very sex-positive person.’

Clayton has been fortunate that his weight has never varied much. When he graduated from college he weighed 168lb (12 stone) and is now just 5lbs heavier – and he can even still fit into his wedding tuxedo. Above, Clayton pictured at his high school prom

And the men that Clayton has dated since coming out as gay are often incredulous that he is sixty years old.
‘The age range of those that I have dated is quite wide, ranging from late twenties to mid-fifties – I always seem to be older,’ said Clayton.
While the bodybuilding champion has never faced being overweight or out of shape, for him, it was always just a matter of being ‘more in shape’.
‘Honestly, maintaining my weight is easy. I’ve been blessed with a naturally thin body and healthy metabolism,’ said Clayton. ‘I have been fortunate that my weight has never varied much. I graduated college at 170lb and now am 177Ib. I still fit into my wedding tuxedo.’
With his impressive bulked up body, Clayton competed in two national physique shows in 2018 – the NPC Masters Nationals in July 2018 (the 50 plus age group), where he came fifth and the NPC North American Championships (the 60 plus age group), where he placed third.
The bodybuilder is often asked whether he’s on steroids or takes supplements, but he insisted he does neither. Instead, he attributes his muscle tone to his natural testosterone level which is ‘above the normal range’

Due to his muscular tone, Clayton feels physically fitter now than when he was in his teens and twenties.
But it was only when his children were grown up and his career was on solid ground that he really took the time to really focus on his fitness and health.
‘My children were also very supportive, and I always wanted to be a good role model for them,’ said Clayton. ‘I got much more serious about my gym time in my early fifties and then at fifty-nine, I decided to compete in physique competitions.
‘That’s when I really transformed my body into what you see today. But, while how I look is wonderful, the more important outcome is how I feel physically.’
As for being sixty, Clayton believes age is just a number and admits he can’t see any limits.
‘I feel amazing; healthy, strong, capable and I can still ski with my kids, swim long distances, mountain bike, play my piano and bagpipes,’ explained Clayton. ‘I improved my diet and workout program and the result is what you see today. But I like to think that I have a great life/exercise balance.’
But he didn’t achieve his impressive physique alone – he got a coach to help with his workouts and diet.
‘I can’t imagine not going to the gym six to seven days-a-week,’ said Clayton. ‘But as a retiree, it is much easier now than when I was working. The decision to bulk up really came when I finally, after so many years of thinking about it, decided to compete in physique.’

Offering out his words of advice, Clayton recommended not worrying about what people at the gym might think. He said: ‘Most of them will be simply impressed that you’re at the gym or they will ignore you’
And for anyone keen to bulk up and follow in Clayton’s fitness footsteps, he has some solid words of advice.
‘Not wanting to embarrass yourself in front of hundreds of people is a great motivator, but also the positive feedback from friends, family and the trainers at the gym were critical factors,’ he explained.
‘Just get started and don’t worry what people at the gym might think of you. Really, most of them will be simply impressed that you’re at the gym or they will ignore you.’
Reassuringly, like the best of us, Clayton has days where he doesn’t feel like going to the gym, too.
‘I know that once I get there and feel the energy of those around me, I will have a great work out and get inspired,’ he said.
‘Fitness is the one thing that we can do for ourselves that will pay dividends forever. ‘Nothing is certain, but the data is pretty overwhelming that you cut your risk of cancer, heart disease, even the common cold or flu and you will keep your physical capability for years to come.’
