- John Lewis sold 71,000 baubles across the weekend of Saturday, December 1st
Like me, you probably have a treasured collection of Christmas decorations that you lug down from your attic each December.
But this year, we’ve gone baubles bonkers, with everything from glass Brussels sprouts to sparkly dinosaurs on offer.
John Lewis recorded its biggest ever day of bauble sales on Saturday, December 1, selling 71,000 over the course of the weekend. Or you could even make your own, with a class at the capital’s oldest glassmaking studio, London Glassblowing.
Studio manager Bruce Marks helps me as I put the end of a long, hollow metal tube into the furnace. I roll it in pretty powdered glass in green, lilac and red, then slowly blow air into it through the tube and shape it into a perfect, personal glass bauble all of my own.
It takes 20 minutes — but I’m left with a family heirloom that I hope will last for ever. londonglassblowing.co.uk
