Singer Michael Bublé on why he's putting his wife and children before his career and Christmas plans

Wherever my wife [actress and model Luisana Lopilato, 31] and I are, normal wake-up time is 7am. My son Eli [two] loves his milk, so I’ll make a bottle, then sit down for a breakfast of avocado and eggs on toast.

I watch some morning TV then it’s the school run for 9am.

We’re hands-on parents. We have a very sweet nanny, but we like to muck in, too.

It’s pretty hectic with two boys and a baby [Michael and Luisana also have son Noah, five, and daughter Vida, five months].

Lu
is still breastfeeding, so she’s up every few hours during the night.

I have an ice rink in my house. I play ice hockey to keep fit and love it. I hate the gym – the minutes go by so slowly – but I can get a good sweat going on the ice.

My wife is uber-healthy, so lunch is beef with salad or chicken salad. Sometimes it’s fish and salad. It’s a lot of salad!

We pick the kids up from school at 2pm and go to see my grandpa. He’s 91 and loves to spend time with them when we’re in Canada.

My mum and dad may come round to our house and we’ll all go shopping or to the park to play games.

I’m a huge hockey fan, but my boys love soccer. They call it football because of their Argentinian roots.

I don’t think I’ve eaten a hot dinner in about five years.

We all
eat together as a family at 6pm (more salad!). I’ll watch cartoons with the boys before giving them a bath and reading to them in bed at 8.30pm.

Since Vida was born, Lu and I have to work harder to find some time alone, especially while she’s locked into breastfeeding.

My family comes before my career. I’ll tour for three weeks then take two weeks off.

It’s important for me to be fulfilled, and I enjoy bringing happiness and joy to this wonderfully cynical world, but
never at the expense of my family and friendships.

Last Christmas was the best I’ve ever had. We were home with all the family and not in the hospital [with Noah, who was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016].

We played Christmas music while the adults had a drink and the kids were running around. I hired caterers so that no one had to cook and there was no washing up afterwards.

I’m living my dream. Every album I release is a snapshot of where I was living at that time and how I felt.

My new album Love is a way to thank those people who helped me on days when I didn’t know how to get through. Maybe it will help some people with their dark days, too.

Lu falls asleep while I work on my fantasy football team. We head to bed by 11pm and Lu will watch Argentinian TV shows.

When she’s tired she says she loves me, turns over and falls asleep in seconds.

She has a clear conscience. I’ll be tossing and turning for another half hour.
