THE correct pronunciation of certain words can cause something of a stir online.

At least that's what Carla Gouveia found, when she uploaded a video on TikTok recently in which she referred to a necklace – which she pronounced "neck lace".

"Neck LACE," someone commented on the video, alongside a crying laughing emoji.

Responding, Carla hit back: "Right, I’m not being funny now, I’ve had too many comments from people saying that I’m saying necklace wrong.

"And it’s not said wrong, because what do you do with your shoelaces?

"What do you eat? Strawberry laces."

Carla continued to explain that the way other people pronounced the word means something entirely different to her.

"If it was neck-less – how you’re all saying you should say necklace – neck-less to me is this," she said, before bringing her shoulders up to her head to imitate someone with no neck.

"Neck less. Do you know what I mean?" she continued.

"You’ve not got a neck. Fingerless, brainless, heartless.
