I’m a married 16-year-old traveller – my school are trying to fine me £2.5k for not attending but I just want babies

A 16-YEAR-OLD traveller has revealed how she is married to her childhood sweetheart and can’t wait to have kids.

On Getting Married at 16! – Big Fat Gypsy Weddings, young bride Barbara prepares to follow in her sister’s footsteps in leaving the family home to live with her new husband.

While many teens her age are studying for their GCSEs, Barbara can be seen preoccupied with trying to find the perfect wedding dress and booking a venue.

On the episode, Barbara’s attendance at school is suffering as a result of her busy wedding plans.

Reading a letter from her college, she says: “This is the latest worry.

“Basically in normal language, if I don’t go back to school, I could be fined up to £2,500. As if!

“How do you expect me to go to school and get married?

“You are supposed to be a woman aren’t you, not learning things in school, that’s just weird.”

Barbara met her partner Malachy at the age of 13 and they agreed to get married as soon as they were legally able to.

Their wedding on the show is no small affair, with a 25kg wedding cake, a huge dress and the bride arriving on a decorated truck.

Defending her age of getting married, she says: “It’s not written in a book that you have to be a certain age to be married.”

When asked what she was most looking forward to with married life with Malachy, 18, Barbara replies: “Probably having a baby.”
