GUCCI has launched a back-to-school range — including a £900 backpack and £800 coat.
The fashion house hailed its “new backpack shape”. But critics gave the collection full marks for style and a zero for a value.
They say of the backpack: “A new backpack shape introduced in the kids' collection for Pre-Fall 2019, this bag in Original GG canvas is decorated with playful patches from the collection.
“A skull and snake patch and felt 'Gucci Sciroppo'—'Gucci Syrup'—appliqués decorate the flap. Buckled straps along the top and at the flap opening secure the bag closed.”
A boy’s winter puffa-style coat is £795, trainers are £435 and a pump bag for gym kit is a whopping £435.
And a woolly hat for winter? That will be £100, please.
A Gucci belt to hold up those school pants costs £145.
Over in the girls’ department, there’s another selection of bank-busting clobber for kids.
There’s a lamé shawl to keep out the chill on the school run for £145, sweatshirts with a tennis motif for £240 and shoes priced at £245.
Velcro white trainers cost £230.
And Gucci says of a £145 t-shirt: “Crafted from soft, off-white cotton jersey and designed with an oversize fit, this kids' T-shirt recalls the looks from the men's and women's collections.
“Inspired by the House's archive pieces for a country club from 1987, the Gucci Tennis embroidery has a retro feel that transcends seasons and is created for an imaginary Gucci team or sports club.”
