Selena Gomez has had a busy week, what with her releasing two new songs, dealing with some unnecessary faux drama with Hailey Baldwin, and giving interviews about her return to the spotlight.
In her recent interview with Zane Lowe, Gomez opened up about how Taylor Swift helped her through her messy relationship and eventual breakup with Justin Bieber. Lowe also spoke to Swift about Gomez in a separate interview.
Up first was Swift, who called “Lose You to Love Me,” “the best thing she’s ever done.” Swift added, “She’s been through so much. I’ve watched so much happen in her life and had a front row seat to so much, and I’m so proud of her.”
When Lowe asked her how Gomez has changed throughout the years, Swift said:
Later in the day, Lowe played Swift’s response for Gomez, who choked up when she recalled how Swift was there for her through everything. “She was frustrated when I was frustrated; she was sad when I was sad.” She went on to say, “I think they [Selena’s friends] visibly saw me in so much pain. And they didn’t want it for me but they—sorry—they never stopped loving me.”
And while she didn’t say Bieber’s name explicitly, Selena recalled her nearly 10-year on-off relationship with him and said breaking up was “awful” and “pretty terrible.” That said, she was actually okay with calling it quits. “I think I had experienced years of it already so I wasn’t really thrown off, but I was just exhausted.” She resolved, “My heart was just so tired, and I think that allowing myself to just say that was important for me.”
