Amanda Owen, 45, is renowned in the farming community and has become a household name as fans tune into the ever-popular Our Yorkshire Farm to see how she and her big family run their equally ginormous 2,000 acre farm in the heart of the rural countryside. But there’s another side to the shepherdess, one that she revealed sparks a surprising reaction from many.

It doesn’t matter if I’ve got earrings on or a dress, if you want to talk about anything to do with sheep I can have that conversation

In a new interview, Amanda admitted she gets funny responses from people when she glams herself up.

Entitled to a night on the town every now and again, or dressing up as and when she chooses, the former model explained that people only picture her in wellies and filthy farming gear.

“Who wants to fit in?” she giggled.

“I still think if I go back to the beginning of me wanting to be a shepherd as a teenager in Huddersfield, I think that was rebellion.”

She went on to detail the kids of reaction her glamorous-self receives.

“Now, people will say things like, ‘She has heels, a dress and earrings on and she’s a shepherd,’ when I go to an event.

“Stuff ’em!”

Amanda continued to tell The Mirror: “It doesn’t matter if I’ve got earrings on or a dress, if you want to talk about anything to do with sheep I can have that conversation!”

The writer has a successful background in modelling but traded it all in to fulfil her childhood dream.

However, it’s no easy ride.

Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale boasts a lot of livestock, including 175 sheep, 50 hens, a few cockerels, around 20 cows and a bull, five sheepdogs and two horses, Tony the pony and a new Clydesdale, Hazel.

With a lot of rearing and feeding to do, it is no surprise Amanda is physically fit and healthy.

After meeting her husband Clive when she was just 21, she has gone onto give birth to nine children; Raven, 20, Reuben, 17, Miles, 15, Edith, 12, Violet, 10, Sidney, nine, Anna, seven, Clemmy, five, Nancy, four.

And during a previous interview, she put her good looks down to “fakery” and “wearing big underwear”.

“Every day is a workout here, I’m always chasing after sheep or children,” she giggled.

When asked what a typical day looks like, she admitted there isn’t one.

“It’s always very much about the weather, from sheep shearing to making hay to clipping hogs [young sheep],”she said last year.

“It’s like a keep-fit regime and it can actually be quite back-breaking.

“There’s always something happening on a farm and if you’re not working, then you’re ignoring something.”

Amanda went on: “There are gaps in the walls to rebuild, cattle need moving, it’s a constant ongoing thing.

“There’s never a quiet time and the washing machine is always going!” she told This Is Y magazine.
