Saira Khan gives more details on Loose Women exit: ‘Didn’t feel it was part of sisterhood’

Saira Khan thanks fans for support ahead of her operation

Saira Khan, 50, has spoken out on some issues she was less than impressed with towards the end of her time on the Loose Women panel. The former Apprentice star left the ITV show at the beginning of 2021 after being a viewers’ favourite for the past five years.

Saira has now shared further details about her decision to quit the programme.

The television personality admitted she was unhappy about certain aspects of the show both on-screen and behind-the-scenes.

She divulged: “There were elements both on screen and behind the scenes of being a Loose Woman that towards the end I didn’t enjoy and I didn’t feel it was part of the sisterhood.

“It wasn’t making me happy, so I had to bow out, look after my mental health and give someone else my platform.”

Despite her issues in recent months, Saira insisted she had previously enjoyed her time on Loose Women.

The presenter explained: “I had a great five years and I did what I wanted to do with my platform, which was share my stories and experiences being from a minority background.

“There’s nothing more I can say that’s new.”

Saira went on to share who she would like to replace her on the ITV daytime show.

She said in a new interview with HELLO! Magazine: “I’m adamant that my place on the panel goes to a woman who is part of the LGBTQ community.

“I want to know what it’s like for a young gay woman to come out and the prejudice she may have experienced.

“It will inspire others and give another perspective.”

The presenter announced her decision to quit the show earlier this month after her fellow panellist Andrea McLean also stepped away from her role on the programme.

Hinting at some tension behind-the-scenes, Saira previously revealed she wasn’t planning on staying in touch with all of her co-hosts following her departure.

When quizzed on who she’d remain friends with, the former Apprentice star divulged: “You make friends with some people, you tolerate some people, and some people you just have to do the job with.”

Saira added: “I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty there now.

“There are some friends.. people I will be close to because we get each other.

“And there are some I really don’t miss at all who I was just like, ‘I just have to tolerate you to do the job’.”

Saira went on: “You have to be professional about it. You can’t pretend that everyone is going to be your best friend.

“Especially on a show with different opinions, you’re not going to tolerate everybody’s opinion.”

She added during her chat with Celebrity Skin Talk host Scott McGlynn: “That’s fine. That’s not a problem, just do it with respect and you have to be open minded.”
