Perri Kiely competed on Dancing on Ice earlier this year where he reached the final with his skating partner Vanessa Bauer. With the 2021 line up having been announced in September, Perri opened up to Express.co.uk on what he thinks of the lineup.

Talking to Express.co.uk of the Dancing on Ice 2021 line up, Perri said: “I have seen some of it, obviously I was with Vanessa last year so I know that she is with Joe [Warren] Plant.

“Denise Van Outen is in it, and so it’s strong, it feels like it’s going to be a strong year.

“And I have seen a few clips that Vanessa has sent me on the sly and there looking good.”

Perri and his skating partner Vanessa came runner up to Joe Swash earlier this year on the show.

The Diversity star went on to say how while on the series, Joe Swash surprised everyone.

He said: “Every single year there is someone that comes through when you least expect it.

“I remember stepping on the ice for the first time all together and Joe Swash being there and he could hardly stand up and like he won the show. If you were to have seen him skating around on the ice, you would literally think he had been doing this for years.

“But I don’t think you know who its going to be but then all of a sudden at the end its just like boom.”

However, when it came to his own transition to the ice, he spoke of how he felt it was harder coming from a background of dance.

Perri said: “It was a lot harder than I thought because I know that people probably thought that I would have it easy you know being a dancer.

“But I remember turning up to my first skating session and my coach saying to me ‘do you know what its actually easier for me to teach someone from scratch rather than teach you.’

“You have almost got to unlearn and forget about everything you think you know otherwise it won’t help you.

“If I’m like on the floor and if I fall over I can catch myself in a certain way or like I have a contingency so to say.

“On the ice no it doesn’t play no games if you fall you’re not saving yourself it’s just going to hurt.”

On the series, Perri performed a backflip on the ice as part on one of his routines which was the first to be attempted on the show.

Talking of his decision behind the flip he said: “Do you know what when I first got asked to the show I was oh my god I would love to do a flip, and then I got to my first skating session, and I was like omg I’m never going to be able to do a flip I can hardly stand up.

“So to finally get to that was insane. Flipping is basically my job, so I thought it should be easy, but no once again, it was like starting from scratch.

“It was something that I really wanted to push myself towards, and I completed it, and I think I was the first and probably I don’t know its a hard thing to do so I might be the only one.”

During the series, Perri found love with girlfriend Laura who was a production assistant on the show.

Speaking of how they met, he said: “So Laura worked on the show as in like behind the scenes, and technically I have known her since last September/October.

“To be fair we didn’t really chat that much on Dancing on Ice it wasn’t really like that, and it was like afterwards, we stayed in touch a little bit and yeah it unexpectedly kind of took a turn.

“She’s my first ever girlfriend, and so it’s crazy. It literally took me 24 years and a global pandemic but I did get there.”

Talking of relationship amid lockdown he said: “It’s been a bit tough, you know I finally did get a girlfriend, and then it was like ‘ok, and now you can see her’, so it was a bit hard.”

Elsewhere Perri has partnered up with Glasses Direct who have conducted new research into how the nation feels wearing glasses.

Talking of the new research, Perri said: “I feel like wearing glasses beforehand was only for those practical reasons, like you need them to help your eyesight.

“But nowadays, I know Ash as Jord they’ve worn glasses with an outfit and their eyes are completely fine they’ve just worn the frames you know because I feel it really can enhance outfits.”
