It used to be that if you wanted to see new pictures of semi-private person Jake Gyllenhaal, you’d have to wait for a movie premiere, or pap shots captured during filming, or whenever he decides to date another famous person. Jake didn’t do social media before, but he does now, thanks to a role in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.
Jake has been in talks to join a superhero franchise for a while now. A year ago it was rumored he could be replacing Ben Affleck as Batman. Then in May of this year there were whispers that he was in talks to play the villain Mysterio in the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. The second proved to be true. Jake popped his Instagram cherry yesterday by posting a video in which he teases his involvement in the next Spider-Man movie.
That’s a great obvious caption. I’m sure there are fans out there who would love to see a 30-something Spider-Man drinking beers alone in his garage to avoid dealing with an overdue mortgage payment. But Jake is playing the villain. Entertainment Weekly says that Jake’s IG post was a confirmation that he’ll be playing Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Mysterio, aka Quentin Beck, was a special effects wizard and stunt man who leaves Hollywood and applies his skills to general villainry. Spider-Man: Far From Home follows Peter Parker and his friends on a class trip overseas. The film is scheduled for release in June 2019.
Jake’s first Instagram post is fine, but many are just waiting for when Jake discovers what Instagram was made for: thirst traps. Especially if it involves some accidental innuendo about getting hit with Spider-Man’s sticky white webbing.
