Maisie Smith has assured that she will make a return to EastEnders at some point, hoping to reprise her iconic role of Tiffany Butcher once again.
The Strictly Come Dancing star, 21, who became a household name after joining the BBC soap at just six years old, has been away from the show for two years, after returning in 2018 following a four-year break.
Despite being consumed by her role in the Strictly Ballroom: The Musical, which she joined after placing second in the BBC dancing show, the actress assured during a chat with OK! that she has 'never really left' the soap that made her famous.
She said of the show: "You never leave EastEnders. I’ve got a family on there that will be there for the next 50 years. I’ll always have a place there. The next time someone gets married or dies, I’m sure I’ll be back.
"They’ve watched me grow up and have never treated me any differently.”
The door is certainly open for a comeback, with Maisie's character Tiffany leaving Walford to move to Germany with brother Liam (Alfie Deegan).
And it's not unfamiliar territory for the star either, who left the soap briefly in 2014 before returning in 2018. Following her most recent departure from the soap, It was reported that she was hoping to pursue other projects.
She's doing just that too, with shooting for her new film starting next month. “It’s a gangster film, that’s all I can say at the moment, but it will be a nice change for me as an actress,” she said.
The movie, which is called Bermondsey Tales: Fall Of The Roman Empire, features Maisie in the role of Chloe and is also thought to be starring Loose Women's Linda Robson.
While little has been revealed on the project, it is thought that the character of Chloe is 'a leading player in a mobster family', according to The Sun.
Amid new films and a booming social media presence, an EastEnders return may be on hold for the moment, as the busy star admitted she's even struggled to catch up with family.
Maisie explained: “I’ve not been home at all and I feel so bad. I didn’t realise how many jobs I’d been putting off since being on tour."
“My mum keeps calling, going, ‘Are we seeing you this weekend?’ And I’m like, ‘Maybe next weekend.’ Once this busy spell is over, I’ll probably go down for a week.”
