Love Island’s Luca Bish says he’s a ‘better person’ after Gemma Owen split

Luca Bish has said he thinks he's become a "better person" after splitting up from Gemma Owen.

The former couple hit it off on Love Island last summer, but called it quits just three months later after leaving the villa.

Luca, 23, admitted he was blindsided when Gemma, 19, broke the news on social media even though the split itself was a mutual decision.

Speaking to the Mirror, Luca said that he has learned a lot from re-watching the show and said he found parts of it difficult to watch after he was criticised for being too possessive with Gemma.

"I see it as a lesson," he told the publication. "I've learned a lot about myself when watching it back, some I like, some I don't like. You go from there and you become a better person.

"Before another relationship I want to make sure I'm happy with my life and that I don't need someone else to make me happy."

It was in November last year when fans, and Luca, were shocked when Gemma posted on her Instagram Story to announce their breakup.

She wrote: "To all my followers, I wanted to let you know that Luca and I are no longer in a relationship. It wasn't an easy decision but ultimately this is what is best for us both right now."

Gemma, who is the daughter of footballing veteran Michael Owen, went on: "Many of you have been on this journey with us from the beginning, and I wanted to thank you for your continued support as we start our new chapters."

Later that same day, Luca addressed the split as he wrote: "Switched my phone back on after taking some time out to clear my head after an emotional afternoon to thousands of messages and news articles about my breakup."

The star went on to say he would have liked "some time" to process the decision "privately" after he and Gemma mutually chose to go their "separate ways" earlier in the day.

"We have been on such a journey together and have made some amazing memories which I will treasure," the star said.

Luca added that he "can't thank everyone enough for their support" for him and Gemma as a couple, both during and after Love Island.

"We will remain good friends and I wish nothing but the best for her," the former fishmonger added.

It’s believed one of main issues that led to Luca and Gemma's split was the distance between their homes, with Gemma residing in Chester with her footballer dad and family, while Luca lived over 200 miles away in Brighton.
