Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper wanted people to think they were a thing

Lady Gaga claims her closeness with Bradley Cooper was a ‘performance’.

The singer starred opposite Bradley in the Oscar-nominated A Star Is Born, and the pair were dogged by ‘silly’ rumours that they had become more than friends.

But Gaga says we saw exactly what they wanted us to see when they performed together at the Academy Awards, telling Elle: ‘We wanted people to believe that we were in love.’

She explained: ‘Quite frankly, I think the press is very silly. I mean, we made a love story.

‘For me, as a performer and as an actress, of course we wanted people to believe that we were in love. And we wanted people to feel that love at the Oscars.

‘We wanted it to go right through the lens of that camera and to every television that it was being watched on. And we worked hard on it, we worked for days. We mapped the whole thing out—it was orchestrated as a performance.’

Asked if they had ‘orchestrated’ their performance to ‘evoke exactly what it did’ she added: ‘In truth, when we talked about it, we went, “Well, I guess we did a good job!”.’

Bradley was with girlfriend Irina Shayk during the awards trail for A Star Is Born, but the couple – who share daughter Lea – have since split.

The Hangover star, 44, and Irina recently came to a custody agreement over their daughter.

They reportedly had an amicable break-up, following a four-year relationship, but working out an arrangement on their only child was a little more complicated.

It was claimed model Irina, 33, was keen to stay in New York, while the actor wanted to move to LA for work.

The Bad Romance singer was recently cast in Ridley Scott’s upcoming film about the Gucci family murder.

As of yet untitled, the movie will recount the 1995 murder of the heir to the iconic fashion house, Maurizio Gucci, who was shot in the head by a hitman.

Lady Gaga will play Patrizia Reggiani, Maurizio’s ex-wife who was dubbed the Dark Widow by the media after being sentenced to 29 years in prison for orchestrating his death.
