Kym Marsh, 44, exited Coronation Street in December after 14 years on the show. The former Weatherfield star has since expressed her concerns over Sherrie Hewson’s comments about the ITV soap.

It comes after the Coronation Street legend complained that the soap’s modern stars lack glamour – and turn up in their gym kit.

The 69-year-old actress – who first appeared on the ITV soap as Maureen Webster back in the 90s – is not impressed with how the current cast turn up to set.

Sherrie explained that TV stars in the past were more traditional and would “dress up for work”.

The soap star confessed that it may be a “generational thing” but added you shouldn’t look “sloppy” going to work.

Kym has now addressed Sherrie’s remarks in her latest column for OK! Magazine.

The TV presenter admitted things have “changed” since Sherrie had been a part of the soap and added it “wouldn’t make sense to be glammed up” nowadays.

Writing in her column, Kym penned: “I agree. Things have changed but I think the stars of the soaps have changed with the times.

“It wouldn’t make sense for use to be glammed up because we’d have to get that all stripped off.”

Kym explained that due to the volume of episodes being filmed it was not worth spending too much time on the cast’s work attire.

She finished: “Shows like Coronation Street also have more episodes now than they used to, which means we don’t get the luxury of rehearsals and days on set can be 12 hours.”

Kym’s remarks come after Sherrie appeared on the Distinct Nostalgia podcast where she addressed the current Corrie cast.

The Loose Women panelist spoke out about how times have changed since her stint on the show.

She said: “There used to be a tradition of glamour. People used to dress up to come to work.

“I think maybe it is a generational thing. Bill Roache was always smart.

“He always wore a suit. Barbara Knox was the queen of the street and she still is. Everything immaculate, you know – the clothes, the hair…”

Sherrie continued: “I always took that from her. Like, ‘You should always look fabulous when you come to work. Not sloppy.’

“It is different. Everybody has got running clothes on as they are just about to go for a run before they go to work. I loved the glamour.”

Sherrie first made her debut in Weatherfield in 1993 but departed the show in 2016 after two decades.

She has since appeared as a regular face on ITV’s Loose Women and also starred on comedy show Benidorm.
