The Good Morning Britain star, 54, revealed that following a health issue last week, she was left in an awkward situation. A nasty eye infection caused Kate Garraway’s eyesight to play up.
I transferred some money into the wrong account and I had to ask for it back
Speaking to co-anchor Ranvir Singh, 43, today, Kate admitted that she didn’t attend a work meeting due to health complications.
She had been set to work alongside Ranvir on a special project but Kate had been forced to cancel after falling ill.
While it is not yet known what the pair had been intending to do, Ranvir quipped that Kate had to “bail”.
The mum-of-two had been dealing with an eye infection that left her unable to put her contact lenses in, as well as read the autocue at the Good Morning Britain studio.
“It’s nice to see you,” Kate said to Ranvir as the pair welcomed viewers to today’s show.
Ranvir quickly responded: “Well, can you see me? This is the issue! We were meant to be doing something earlier in the week, weren’t we?”
Addressing their unknown work, Kate revealed: “We were doing a special project, which you will see more about later in the year.”
“But then you bailed on me, Garraway,” exclaimed Singh.
Sharing why she had cancelled on their plans, Kate explained: “I did bail because I couldn’t see. I know it’s always one of my excuses.
“I can barely read the autocue at the best of times, but I had an eye infection Friday, do you remember it was watering a bit when I was on the show, and then it spread to the other eye, so I couldn’t put my contacts in, I couldn’t see anything.”
Kate went on to say: “I was sending random texts to people with the wrong thing, really confusing.”
She shared her perhaps most embarrassing moment, saying: “I transferred some money into the wrong account and I had to ask for it back, I transferred money to someone. It was mortifying and then I got an inner ear infection.”
Acknowledging Kate’s tumultuous year, Ranvir quipped: “The thing is, you’ve had quite a year – honestly.”
Last year, Kate’s world was turned upside down when her husband Derek Draper, 53, contracted coronavirus.
Derek’s health rapidly deteriorated with the former political lobbyist being admitted to hospital and later placed in a medically induced coma.
He was released from hospital earlier this year, just over 12 months after first being admitted, resulting in him becoming the longest patient requiring hospital treatment in England.
Now, Derek is in recovery at their family home in London, with Kate recently sharing the delightful news that he is saying “some words”, but admitted that there is a long way to go.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain previously, Garraway told host Ben Shephard: “He remembers extraordinary things, he’s saying some words – but it’s definitely not a conversation.
“He’s physically very changed, everything has to be done for him.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
