Saturday Morning chef James Martin took the opportunity to offer his heartfelt condolences to the legendary French chef Pierre Troisgros who died at the age of 92. The 48-year-old revered the culinary star as a “true legend” in a heartbreaking tribute.

In view of his 416,000 Instagram followers, James shared a snap of Pierre biting into a croissant.

He penned: “One of the true greats passes away aged 92. RIP Pierre Troisgros, what a legend.”

The This Morning chef also shared the post on his official Twitter account where fans flocked to offer their condolences.

One person penned: “Always sad but lovely to celebrate a great age of passing. God Bless.”

“Sad. Your profession has lost some greats recently,” another person commented.

A third person offered: “Another great name passed.RIP.”

While a fourth person said: “This year is definitely not the best! RIP Pierre.”

Pierre was one of France’s top chefs who helped reinvent the country’s traditional cuisine, with news of his death coming just weeks after his 92nd birthday.

The well-known culinary expert reportedly died at his home in Coteau in France, near Roanne in the Loire region where his restaurant was long located.

Born in 1938, Pierre learned his craft at his family’s hotel-restaurant in Roanne before heading for Paris.

He returned to his home in the 1950s and took on the family hotel-restaurant with brother Jean Troisgros, earning a first Michelin star in 1955.

The restaurant was renamed Les Freres Troisgros, and the cuisine changed along with the name and earned its first three-star rating in 1968.

Pierre’s son Michel joined his father in the kitchen following the death of brother Jean in 1983.

His two other children are also both restaurateurs, his son Claude in Brazil and his daughter Anne-Marie in Bordeaux in southwest France.

Meanwhile, James has risen through the ranks of the culinary world, having hosted an array of cooking shows.

A successful few years saw him studying catering at Scarborough Technical College.

After this, in pursuit of professional training, James travelled to France to learn the cooking trade from the best at the Hostellerie De Plaisance.

It was here that he worked at the Michelin star restaurant Maison Troisgros in Roanne.

The small-screen star is the owner of James Martin Manchester, The Kitchen at Chewton Glen in Hampshire and café chain James Martin Kitchen.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs Saturday on ITV at 9.25am.
