He’s long been tipped to take over as the next James Bond .
And now Idris Elba has sent speculation into overdrive by dropping another huge hint that he could be set to play 007.
The actor posted a picture of himself with current Bond, Daniel Craig , at the Golden Globes in Hollywood last night.
Sharing the snap on his Instagram story, the 46-year-old star simply wrote: "Awkward."
Elba’s fiance, model Sabrina Dhowre, also shared the picture, which shows the actors eyeing each other, with her followers.
She added the cryptic caption: "Not to add to the fire but….play nice guys"
The couple attended the glittering event in Los Angeles with Idris’ 17-year-old daughter Isan, who is a Golden Globes ambassador.
Elba, voted People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ donned a green tuxedo and joined Taylor Swift to present Lady Gaga with the best song award.
Luther’s return to the small screen has got viewers wanting Elba to take to the big screen as 007.
And the actor has dropped a number of hints that he could be in line to be the next James Bond.
Last summer, he posted a selfie alongside a obvious nod to 007’s iconic line: “The name’s Bond, James Bond.”
He wrote: “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba.”
Fans were whipped up into a frenzy by the tweet, with many calling for him to land the coveted role.
One wrote: “I might actually feel compelled to watch a bond film if the rumours are true!”
Another posted: “Might just be teasing. Maybe he’s in talks/negotiating a deal? I will wait for official confirmation before celebrating, lol. Here’s hoping tho!”
Meanwhile, one fan begged: “Don’t tease us like this, Idris!”
The upcoming 25th instalment of the James Bond film series is likely to be Daniel Craig’s last, after he previously insisted he wouldn’t make another.
Idris’s tweet came as director Antoine Fuqua claimed “it is time” for a non-white actor to take on the leading role, adding: “It will happen eventually.”
Having supposedly spoken with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, Antoine went on to earmark Idris, 45, as a top contender for the role once Daniel finally departs.
“Idris could do it if he was in shape," Antoine said, according to the Daily Star .
"You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.”
Would he make a good James Bond?
