Savvy Gemma Collins’ Dancing On Ice fall could prove to be the most lucrative thing she’s done, with the star predicted to become the highest-paid reality star on TV.
Gemma, 37, has potentially doubled her fees for the show after faceplanting on the ice last Sunday, and experts predict she’s on track to eclipse her ex TOWIE cast-mate Sam Faiers as the biggest earner on reality TV.
"Gemma is fast becoming the UK’s most talked about celebrity and its hard to work out whether she’s genuinely TV gold or whether its part of well thought out plan," PR expert Rob Cooper tells Mirror Online.
"Appearing on numerous reality shows, Gemma is always the stand out star and that’s because of her ability to create moments that are worthy of going viral on the internet.
"These moments become click bait and fuel a thirst for updates on how her week is going before her next big tv. Once there is an appetite for a celebrity from viewers their earning potential almost becomes uncapped."
But where does the money come from? On top of her rumoured £100,000 pay packet, she can command up to £7,000 for a set of pap pictures.
And Rob says the big money lies with the subsequent interviews and media opportunities – like joining Good Morning Britain as a celebrity host – giving The GC the potential to net another £100,000.
However, if she wants to eclipse Sam, Rob believes she’ll need to temper her diva act that’s earned her so much stick on the show.
"If Gemma tweaks her GC persona, she’ll become the highest paid reality TV star of the year. If she can show that she can turn up on time, work hard and still manage to maintain a ‘diva’ image at the same time she’ll be the highest paid contestant on any reality show she appears on this year," he adds.
As for whether the fall for the real deal or a cleverly-executed ploy, Rob says he believes Gemma’s fall ‘was genuine’ – but reckons she’ll only reach her top earnings potential if she makes one change.
"I think she also know she needs to create a memorable moment each week, so if the fall hadn’t happened I have no doubt she would have done or said something by the time her airtime was over," he said.
Gemma is currently believed to have a net worth of £2.7million, compared to Sam’s whopping £7.5million.
While Gemma has appeared on shows including Celebrity Big Brother and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, Sam has her own lucrative series, The Mummy Diaries, which just landed a three-year £350k deal with ITV and was also picked up by Netflix .
