Last night, Beyoncé shared on Instagram what we’ve been thinking all along: she used to look exactly like her daughter Blue Ivy as a child. The superstar posted side-by-side photos of her and her eldest, both at the same age. They’re rocking the same hair and their faces are nearly identical.
However, what seemed to catch her followers off guard wasn’t so much the picture itself, but the caption she used. Actually, they were surprised she used a caption at all.
The singer only captions her photos from time to time; of the 23 photos she shared since November 1, only five had captions (her New Year’s Eve pic, her shoutout to African designers, her Global Citizen Festival recap, her Kim Porter tribute, and her Beto O’Rourke endorsement).
But this is Beyoncé we’re speaking of. She usually doesn’t need to use captions when she posts breathtaking OOTDs or concert stills that speak for themselves.
This time, however, Bey had a rare personal moment on Instagram while fawning over her daughter: “Someone made this comparison of me at age 7 and Blue at age 7. My baby is growing up.”
Fans did not take that note lightly. People poured celebratory reactions in the comments and shared reactions on Twitter. If anyone could get the internet talking with just a few sentimental words, it’s Beyoncé.
The Blue comparison wasn’t the only Instagram (with a caption!) Bey posted yesterday. Shortly before sharing the side-by-side, she also gave us a series of photos from her latest outfit shoot, featuring a striped matching set, a belt bag, oversized sunglasses, and PVC heels. For the post, she wrote, “Photo Credit: B.IV😍,” seemingly crediting Blue Ivy for taking the shots.
The set of images also included a pic of the oldest Carter child—who just turned 7 years old on January 7—lounging in a floral track suit, white tee, and sneakers. (Her siblings, twins Rumi and Sir, were missing in action).
