Emmerdale star ‘quits soap after a year’ and prepares to film exit scenes

Emmerdale 's Karene Peter is thought to be leaving the soap, after playing the role of Naomi Walters for just one year.

The 31 year old actress who plays the 22 year old character is said to be in the midst of filming her final scenes after deciding to leave the role.

Karene joined the action on in the Dales in summer last year, when she entered the soap as Vicar Charles Anderson’s long-lost daughter Naomi Walters.

Her character Naomi has had her fair share of drama, having been unmasked as one of Nicola King’s attackers and involved in a drugs storyline where soap villain Alex was caught with drugs by Naomi's father, Charles.

Naomi also recently split with farmer Nate Robinson, and has been spending more time on connecting with the family.

It's thought that actor Karene decided to leave the soap to pursue other opportunities and try out new acting roles.

A source told The Sun: “Karene’s loved her time on the soap but it is time for her to go. Being on Emmerdale was a dream but she became an actor to play different roles and that’s exactly what she wants to do.

“The door isn’t being closed on Naomi so she could always make a return down the line.”

Whilst Karene, aka Naomi, may be leaving the show, the Anderson family is getting a new addition, in the form of Charles' mother, Claudette, played by Flo Wilson.

Charles seems less than thrilled by his mother's arrival, and it soon seems that she is keeping some things close to her chest.

Executive producer Jane Hudson said about the new storyline: "We are delighted to welcome Flo Wilson to the cast of Emmerdale. Her talent and experience will bring a new dimension to the show, and we can't wait for viewers to see her in action. She's certainly going to ruffle feathers in the Anderson household."

Karene has previously opened up about how she stumbled into life as an actor after a friend in the industry encouraged her to go to acting classes.

“I’ve been acting since I was about 18. I kind of just fell into it by accident, to be honest,” she told reporters including OK!

“I was on a gap year in uni just working in retail, the glamorous day job life, I met someone who is my very good friend now who told me to come to some acting classes.”

The star then went on to land roles in shows including Holby City and Doctors and even appeared in three episodes of Call The Midwife back in 2021.
